Today I am very excited to have Robb Wolf on the show. Robb is a former research biochemist (very smart guy), health expert, and author of the New York Times bestseller “The Paleo Solution” and the eagerly anticipated “Wired To Eat.” We covered some mind blowing stuff in this interview. To Paleo or Not to Paleo?
If there is an expert on paleo, it is Robb Wolf. No joke, his nickname is “the Paleo diet guy.” By now you’ve probably heard about “Paleo this” and “Paleo that” but does Paleo actually work? Is it the miracle-universally-effective diet we’ve been searching our entire lives for?
My answer here is the same as always; it depends. It really depends on what works for YOU. Paleo has worked for some and not for others, even Robb isn’t strict paleo but it has worked well for him for years. Some people can eat if-it-fits-your-macros (IIFYM) diet and thrive but diet really depends from person to person. Phew, you probably thought I was going to tell you put down all the carbs.

Eat More and Move Less?
No, I did not mix those up and I am not saying you should ditch the gym either (nice try sister). We are wired to eat more and move less. Our ancestors did not have the abundance of food that we have now and our bodies are now a little confused.
Nature used to reward us for eating anything that wasn’t nailed down and then we got to rest….those must have been the days that everyone keeps talking about. We were rewarded for seeking out variety and eating more energy dense food because we were active in actually trying to acquire the food in the first place, we burnt energy to acquire energy. Today, it really doesn’t take much effort to hit request on UberEats and maybe burn one calorie to receive a three portioned bowl of Pad Thai and a bottle of wine.
According to Robb, our bodies are still wired to those caveman days and the diet our ancestors needed to survive. This takes the morality out of the equation, it really isn’t your fault, your body just hasn’t evolved completely from those caveman days.
Food, Sex, and Porn: What Do They Have in Common?
You’re probably wondering how food is like sex. What could those two possibly have in common? Think about it like this: what are the two most primal needs the species needs to survive? Food and sex, or else we wouldn’t be here today.
If you have ever looked up #foodporn online, then you have probably seen how social media and marketing has made food look…sexy…like really sexy. Can you say #chocogasm? There are certain people that if are just shown a picture of a chocolate cake start releasing insulin causing their blood sugar to drop and start craving refined carbs. This is fascinating!
If we look a the hormones, such as oxytocin, that are released when we are getting frisky with our significant other and the hormones that are released when we eat, we can correlate a lot of our overeating and dissatisfaction to lack of intimacy and love.
And get this: the people that are making a buck from these addictive unreal relationships TOTALLY understand the effects their marketing has on our brains. It’s not just coincidence
